Suiseki Softfall is an on-going series based on contrasts of material
used to invoke and evoke the symbolic image of marble. As part of a two-part residency exchange between Italy and Singapore, it was developed for Excavata, a duo project with the Italian artist Gabriele Dini.
Large-scale textile prints show the marble surface blown up so that its minute textures turn into large features. The supple softness of silk plays against the hardness and surprising fragility of stone.
Developed in residency in Carrara, Italy, home to the renowned quarries and centuries of a rich heritage of marble-working.
With warm thanks to Laboratorio Artistici Nicoli and Fitz-Carrara Studio.
