purikura paradise, 2016

neoprints and performance

Paper replicas of luxury goods and necessities are traditionally burned as offerings for those in the Chinese afterlife, a blend of paradise and hell in which money still functions.

I wore a set of paper offering shoes and handbag, making the images into over-decorated sticker form after the style of Neoprints/ Purikura (photo-sticker booths that became a craze in Southeast Asia in the 90s).

An absurd reality provides an often comic perspective on the concepts of pleasure and appeasement.
